What are Temporary or Provisional Teeth?
Temporary or provisional teeth are usually made of fibre-reinforced acrylic and are used to facilitate the initial healing and settling in of the jaw and implants. The temporary replacement teeth are attached directly to the implants via abutments.
The fibre-reinforced acrylic allows for changes to be easily made to the teeth for bite and feel as the healing progresses and would stay in the mouth for approximately 3 months. The good news is that the temporary teeth will look, feel, and function like natural teeth and may be considered for longer periods.
Final or definitive teeth are made of ceramic or in combination with metal. They are more aesthetic, longer lasting and more durable and will fit the healed gum tissues more precisely. The new final teeth would not only function like natural teeth but be more aesthetic and beautiful!
